The Recipes for Success

Ready to be all naturally clean and fab. READ ON!
Just as a disclaimer, I am not clever or creative enough to come up with these things on my own. I am a total klepto and steal EVERYTHING (except for my paralysing good looks and dirty sense of humor) Most of this is coming right from cave girl eats blog which is linked at the top. I'm all about getting the word out there.
Why?
Your skin is the largest and most important organ you have. It is extremely porous and absorbs anything and everything you put on it. So, why would you put anything on your body you wouldn't put in your mouth? These points are way more important than you think. Skin cancer is so often blamed solely on the sun (something we were created to bask in) and no one thinks about all the damage skin care products do to your skin.
Anyways, lets talk getting clean.
Hair
Cleanse- 2 T baking soda to 1 cup of water (works best if you premix and let dissolve)
Condition- 1 T Apple Cider Vinegar to 1 cup of water (I also premix)

These two concoctions are the ones in my pretty glass bottles!

Transitioning to a "no poo" (sorry Yelle) regimen is different for everyone. Be prepared to rock a pony tail until your hair figures out how to regulate it's oil production by itself.

Body
Clease- Dr. Bonner's Magic soap (read the directions on the bottle so you don't get too dried out)
Moisturize- Cold pressed coconut oil (Found at health food store)

Face
Clease- Oil Cleansing Method (1 part Castor oil 3 parts oil-of-your-choice)
I suggest looking this up and reading about it in google. I'm getting a little winded over here

Fo Da Stank
First, I rub coconut oil on my pits and then a dash of baking soda. 100% stank FREE.

If you want to add some safe smell-goods to your new homemade beauty care products, try adding some essential oils. Yelle and I will soon be covering a local (TB area) shop that sells tons of smell good and teaches you how to make your own cleaning products. Or you could just dump BS on EVERYTHING like I do.

Well there you have it. Comment if you try any of this or if you have any other great idea!!

PS (I know, this is getting ridiculous): I suggest reading The Coconut Oil Miracle (or just skipping to the beauty part because that's ALL I care about). It's VERY informative and explains some of this madness WAY better than I do!

  1. So when you make your own shampoo and conditioner, how many washes does the mix last you? And in thinking about using coconut oil as a moisturizer, it seems you'd be oily all day. Unless you put in on in the shower and rinsed off? Sorry, I need specifics!

  2. Hey hey. Thanks for the questions :)
When I make shampoo and conditioner (just a cup) it lasts me maybe 2 washes. Which is nearly a week because I only wash my hair every 3 days. So I just make new mixes every week. As far as the coconut oil goes. I'm NEVER oily. Your skin sucks it right in and you don't need much ESPECIALLY on your face. My skin is so silky smooth and coconut oil is also a key ingredient in many sunscreens so you get a little natural SPF :) I went out by the pool today and got an awesome tan! Hope that helps! Let me know if I can answer any other questions!!!
